Four men were rescued after becoming stranded on Ben Macdui in the Cairngorms.

The men were on a hike on the 4295ft high mountain – Britain's second highest mountain – when one suffered a leg injury.

Eight members of Braemar Mountain Rescue Team went to their aid, after the alarm was raised by mobile phone around 5pm on Saturday.

"The group did not have crampons or an ice axe and the message is that it is winter conditions with more cold weather forecast," said Braemar MRT operations manager Malcolm MacIntyre.

The team were ferried part of the way up the mountain by a coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Inverness who took the casualty to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness. His condition is unknown. The others were also taken off the hill by 8.30pm.
