There was a lovely surprise delivered to a florist’s for a change rather than the usual other way round.

The Flower Box in Grantown has been named as “Florist of the year” for the the whole of the Highlands in this year’s Scottish Enterprise Awards.

The florist’s run by Maria Norman is a bustling shop which always adds a dash of colour to Grantown’s High Street – even in the darkest of winter months – with an array of flowers and plants in the shop window and out-front.

Ms Norman said: “When I received the news yesterday to say I’d won the award I was just a tad shocked but totally over the moon. Our High Street has amazing shops and we all try our best to keep Grantown on the map.”

Ms Norman and her staff have been inundated with lovely messages from well-wishers on their regional success saying the accolade was ‘well deserved’ and ‘no surprise’ given all the hard work that goes into running the florist’s.

Danny Bayne said: “It’s well and truly deserved for the quality of the products and superb customer service.”

A spokesperson for the Scottish Enterprise Awards – which recognise small and SME – said: “It has been great to see a wide variety of outstanding nominees throughoput Scotland take part this year.”
