Independent research company Loch Ness Exploration (LNE) will use new technology to search the famous waters for the first time since the Loch Ness Investigation Bureau (LNIB) studied the loch in 1972.

The newly revamped Loch Ness Centre, where the first Nessie sighting was 90 years ago, is looking for volunteers of all ages to come and search the surface on August 26 and August 27.

In the air, thermal drones will look for heat signals in the loch, while underwater a hydrophone will detect any acoustic signals that could be coming from the monster.

The surface search will be led by Alan McKenna of the LNE, who will brief the volunteers on the mornings of the search and debrief them in the evening and go through the day's findings.

Mr McKenna said: “It’s our hope to inspire a new generation of Loch Ness enthusiasts.

“You’ll have a real opportunity to personally contribute towards this fascinating mystery that has captivated so many people from around the world.”

There is also the opportunity to get out on the water with Deepscan Captain Alistair Matheson but at a cost of £45 per person.

There will be four Premium Deepscan cruises with Alex McKenna and a member of the original 1972 LNIB investigation.

On this trip, there will be the opportunity to use a 60 foot hydrophone and listen out for Nessie.

Paul Nixon, General Manager of the Loch Ness Centre, said: “We are guardians of this unique story.

“We are committed to helping continue the search and unveil the mysteries that lie under the waters of the famous loch.”

Tours will be carried out at the Loch Ness Centre over the weekend, which will feature real artefacts, eyewitness accounts, and scientific evidence, followed by a talk with Alex McKenna, Nessie hunter Steve Feltham and other speakers yet to be announced.

The tour round the centre costs £30 per person.

Mr Nixon added: “The weekend gives an opportunity to search the waters in a way that has never been done before and we can’t wait to see what we find."
