The draw for the Sutherland Cup has thrown up a Badenoch derby.

The National competition for shinty clubs in divisions one and two, both north and south - was made by Garry MacKintosh, director of sponsors Highland Industrial Supplies.

The first round, played on April 11, has paired Kingussie with Newtonmore in what will easily be the tie of the round.

Newtonmore were North Division 1 Champions last year, but lost out in the Sutherland to Lochside Rovers, who beat Lovat in the final.

‘More last won the Sutherland in 2018 whilst Kingussie’s last got their hands on the trophy in 2012.

Newtonmore have won this trophy 12 times, whilst the Kings have held it on eight occasions.

The Red and Blues will be hoping that home advantage is enough to see them through to the second round and a visit to Aberdeen University.

Meanwhile, Strathspey have a tough draw away at Fort William, but if they are able to field one of their stronger sides and catch the Fort cold, they could spring the surprise of the round and progress to a second round trip to Boleskine. The final will be played at Blairbeg, Drumnadrochit on August 29.
