Fire appliances from Newtonmore and Kingussie were called out after an alert over a wild fire in Badenoch this afternoon.

The service attended the incident just past the base of the Cairngorm Gliding Club in Glenfeshie in mid-afternoon and discovered that the cause was not a grass fire but a small fire lit by campers.

A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service told the Strathy: "It was very quickly dealt with and was no big problem."

The incident came after a series of SFRS reminders that this is not the time to be lighting fires in the wild, after such prolonged dry spell.

The forecast for this week, however, is for some rain over the area.
