Coronavirus hogs most of the headlines but "Instead" offers an alternative this week.
The Kincraig man who wrote it, gifted singer-songwriter Sam Appleby, tells the Strathy: “Despite the restrictions I am able to announce a new release on Tuesday (June 23).”
"Instead" is his fourth single since moving to Edinburgh to study music and was inspired by a “sad talk” over a threatened break-up.
Appleby confessed he rejected his best opportunities, not least at university, but he now has over two million views on social media and his audience is bigger than ever.
The self-produced performer moved to Edinburgh to go all out for music, turning down numerous opportunities to study physics.
His developing solo career has taken him to some of the capital’s top venues including Sneaky Pete’s and the Mash House alongside artists with big audiences such as Molly Hall.
His songs have been played on nationwide radio and he has been interviewed for a number of podcasts.
