Strathspey and Badenoch: images from the storm

All corners of the strath were touched by Storm Gerrit, with various degrees of damage, chaos and disconnection.

Travellers on the A9 were blocked for hours by driving and drifting snow and with emergency vehicles unable to reach them simply had to wait in the cold until conditions eased.

Today reports are that some consumers in Dalwhinnie are still without power.

The morning's roads condition report from Highland Council at 8.35am confirmed that for many areas the worst was over but there were still problems for many:

"Roads generally wet with icy patches and wet snow on highest routes. Marginal temperatures.

"Precautionary treatment to Primary and Secondary routes.

"A939 Grantown to Tomintoul road has reopened (at 10.15am) after being closed due to drifting snow.

"B970 closed between Loch Insh and Rothiemurchus due to multiple fallen trees."
