Councillor Cockburn told the Strathy: “Unfortunately I have been unable to get out and about in the strath due to illness.

“I acquired a bacterial infection – Endocarditis – that required heart valve surgery.

“Due to the care I received in Raigmore Hospital in Inverness and the skills of the surgical team and staff in Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, I am hopefully now on the road to recovery.

“I’m looking forward getting around the ward and getting involved in the not too distant future.

“A thank you to the people and community councils that have extended good wishes and to thank my fellow councillors for assisting at this time.”

Her duties will be shared by the three other local councillors for Badenoch and Strathspey for the foreseeable future.

They are Bill Lobban (Independent), Pippa Hadley (Scottish Greens) and John Bruce (Scottish Conservatives).
