The large tree just missed the main forecourt of the BP filling station on Grampian Road.

Aviemore's main street is currently closed by the BP Garage after a large tree crashed onto the road near the village centre.

Police are at the scene diverting traffic.

A force spokesman confirmed that no-one had been injured in the incident which occurred at around 8.30pm.

The large tree on Strathspey lawns fell across the main road and hit the top of the electronic sign at the filling station.

The road is closed in both direction as it is completely blocked.

Traffic will need to bypass the village centre using the A9 because of the location of the fallen tree.

No Highland Council teams or fire crews were at the scene when the Strathy attended a short time after the incident so the road is not expected to be cleared any time soon.

The strath has been put on red alert by power giant SSEN following the arrival of Storm Corrie this evening, and there are reports that most of Kincraig is now without power.
