Badenoch and Strathspey is to enjoy its last High Street bank for a little longer than customers thought.

The Strathy has learned that the Bank of Scotland’s Aviemore branch, set to close in May, has won a ‘stay of execution’ with efforts still being made to finalise the installation of an ATM for the village.

POSITION OPENING...? The 'spare' space beside Tesco Bank on Grampian Road is tipped to be a possible site of Bank of Scotland's Aviemore ATM.

It’s understood that local staff have been notified that the new closing date is to be June 11.

There has been no official notification to the press as yet but local customers have told the Strathy that they understand there are hopes of the ‘spare’ hole-in-the-wall at Tesco Aviemore is in the running to be occupied by BoS.

It is no secret that for some months now BoS have been trying to engage other banks in the establishment of a facility which would cater for in-payments as well as deposits.

Either way it would be more than any other of the High Street banks had left the strath with.

We hope to have an update as soon as any official information is released.
