Aviemore Post Office is branching out

A Post Office service has returned to Kincraig for the first team in recent years.

The operators of the facility in Aviemore are hitting the road, and offering a Post Office counter in Kincraig Community Hall.

The new service got under way yesterday for a two-hour stint from 10am to noon.

Postmaster Stephen Bruce and his partner Chris Lewis took over Aviemore Post Office just under a year ago and since then have been busy transforming the service much to the delight of customers.

Mr Bruce said: "We have started a brand new outreach service in Kincraig – this is where we bring the Post Office to the community.

"We are set up in the Kincraig Community Hall from 10am to noon and residents will find us there every Friday at the same time.

"We will be able to offer most of the services currently provided in our Aviemore branch from all posting requirements to daily banking needs

"Plus there is a little extra..... we may have some treats from Kilted Fudge Company Ltd with us."

Post office staff member Iain Gemmill will usually be running the service in Kincraig and he told the Strathy: "It was nice to get up and running and we were steady for our first day; it is what we expected and we will expand.

"We are also taking their our Kilted Fudge produce as well."

Mr Bruce and Mr Lewis also run the fudge company on the Dalfaber Industrial Estate at the north end of Aviemore and use their Post Office premises at Myrtlefield as a more prominent outlet for their award-winning produce.

They took over Aviemore Post Office and the former Aviemore News shop at the end of January, earlier this year, after it had been operating on a part-time basis during the Covid-19 pandemic and the departure of the previous Postmaster.

Kincraig has been without its Post Office for the best part of five years. It used to be run by the Duncan family as part of a general village shop.

The premises have since been converted to the Old Post Office cafe run by Toni and Ann Vastano which has become one of the Highlands' most highly regarded eateries.
