Man arrested in connection with death of man in Highland capital

Police Scotland have confirmed that a 65-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of another man in Inverness.

Officers were called to a report of a disturbance in Leachhkin Hill Road around 6pm on Monday (August 17).

Emergency services attended and a 55-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives are treating the incident as a suspicious death following a post mortem examination.

The man who died can now be named as John Birrell and his relatives are aware.

The 65-year-old man is due to appear at Inverness Sheriff Court tomorrow (Wednesday).

A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
