Traffic Scotland is reporting a serious accident on the A9 between Dalwhinnie and Etteridge.

The road is closed in both directions.

The accident is understood to have occurred just after 8pm.

Traffic Scotland state in the only available update: "The A9 Dalwhinnie to Kingussie is currently closed in both directions due to a road traffic incident.

"Road users are advised to use caution on approach and expect longer than normal travel times."

Traffic should be able to avoid the accident area by making a detour via Dalwhinnie itself according to social media reports.

Lisa McLean posted: "I was on the bus a few cars behind it. Driver managed a three point turn and diverted through Dalwhinnie. I would expect it (road) to be closed all night be the look of it."

The Strathy has contacted Police Scotland for more information.
