This cherished memory has surfaced today on social media thanks to Highland Horse Fun's Ruaridh Ormiston in Kingussie.

"I wonder if they will get a chance to have a good laugh together again now?" he asked, as he looked back to the happy meeting between his father Cameron and Her Majesty.

"This was the Royal Highland Show in 1992 and I remember him telling me what they were laughing about."

Mr Ormiston explained: "My Dad had just judged two of Her Majesty's two-year-old old colts Highland Ponies and told her he did not put one of her's First just because she was up in the royal box watching him.

"At the same time, he did let her know it was a really good horse and he genuinely liked him.

"He told her that she should be keeping him as a stallion.

"RIP Ma'am."

Among Ruaridh's treasured memories is a note received from the Palace in 2014 on the death of his father.

"Her majesty had been very sorry to learn of Mr Ormiston's death recently and is aware of the great contribution he made in so many aspects of Scottish Country life, the farming community and to sport.

"Mr Ormiston will be much missed b his family and by all who knew and admired him, and especially by The Queen who benefited so much from his help with her Highland ponies."
