Aviemore Library will have an extra book on its shelves from next week, thanks to the launch of the strath’s latest novelist.

Merryn Glover, of Kincraig, will be on hand to sign copies of her debut work “A house called Askival” which publishers Freight Books have excitedly promoted as “a stunning evocation of Northern India at Partition and in the present day.”

The story is based on the author’s own childhood, as the daughter of missionary parents, and evokes a gripping and heart-warming family drama, while also effecting a complex examination of post-colonial relationships between Indians and Europeans.

“I love you, goodye” author Cynthia Rogerson has praised the originality of the piece: “Glover understands houses are never just houses. Askival will break your heart.”

Breakable hearts should be at the library by 7.30 next Thursday (19).
