Highland MSP welcomes first-ever Scottish wildcat release

Highlands and Islands MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston has welcomed the approval of the first-ever Scottish wildcat release.

The landmark decision is a significant step forward in protecting Scotland's iconic and endangered wildlife, he said.

"The Scottish wildcat is one of Scotland's most iconic, if elusive, creatures.

“It is so important that we do all we can to protect this magnificent animal, and I was delighted to visit the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland’s (RZSS) Highland Wildlife Park only last year to learn first-hand about the work being done.

“We must protect our wonderful natural heritage for future generations, and this is an essential step in ensuring the long-term survival of Scottish wildcats”.
