SIXTEEN new coronavirus infections have been detected across the NHS Highland area, the Scottish Government has announced.

The area's cumulative number of infections increased from 1445 to 1461 when the latest update was published.

There were 958 new cases of Covid-19 confirmed in Scotland in the past 24 hours.

The number of people requiring hospital treatment was down by nine to 982.

Of those, some 69 people were being treated in intensive care – up one since yesterday.

And a further 51 deaths have been reported among those who have tested positive for the virus.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north, there were new additional cases recorded in NHS Shetland (one) and NHS Eileanan Siar (one), but NHS Orkney's cumulative total remained unchanged.

NHS Grampian's total rose by 76 to 4940, and NHS Tayside's cumulative tally increased by 93 to 6071.

Scotland has now detected 97,720 confirmed Covid-19 infections since the beginning of the pandemic.
