Tesco has announced today that 1750 jobs are at risk in branches across the country.

Lead and team managers will be impacted in large stores as 1800 new shift leader roles are to be introduced to support operational duties on the shopfloor.

This comes as the supermarket giant also makes the decision to shut hot counters and delis in stores across the country from February 26.

A further 350 jobs will also be impacted as a series of localised changes take place, including the closure of eight pharmacies, a reduction in hours and the closureof some in-store post offices.

Tesco UK and ROI chief executive Jason Tarry said: “These are difficult decisions to make, but they are necessary to ensure we remain focused on delivering value for our customers wherever we can, as well as ensuring our store offer reflects what our customers value the most.

"Our priority is to support those colleagues impacted and help find alternative roles within our business from the vacancies and newly created roles we have available.”

Tesco currently has around 2000 vacancies across its business.
