YES believers gather in Aviemore
The weekend saw dozens of supporters of Scottish Independence demonstrating in Aviemore for "a better future for Scotland".
The Saturday afternoon gathering arranged by the local Yes Badenoch and Strathspey group, was one of dozens held around the country under the auspices of Believe In Scotland, in which thousands of people from a variety of grassroots organisations joined to show their common purpose.
The gathering at the Ski Road bridge in Aviemore was attended by members of Yes Scotland, The Green Party, the Scottish National Party, the Alba Party and other community groups.
Between noon and 2pm motorists blew their horns in support when they saw the group's eye-catching display of sky-blue saltires on the bridge at the outskirts of the busy holiday village.
Following years of large-scale independence marches and rallies arranged by the All Under One Banner coalition in major cities around Scotland, the Believe In Scotland day of action was designed to take the displays of support into dozens of smaller communities.
Similar gatherings were held in Ullapool, Nairn, Elgin and Inverness, while in Portree, local MP Ian Blackford, the SNP's former Westminster leader, joined local supporters.
Local organiser Amanda Frazer, from Newtonmore and other independence supporters in B&S, said those taking part in the gathering in Aviemore had received a warm welcome from passing walkers and motorists waving and tooting their horns, with many stopping to chat and learn more about the benefits of independence for Scotland.
"I was delighted when a car full of Ukrainians asked what we were doing – once they understood they said 'We wish you luck for Scottish Independence'."
Fellow supporter Hamish Thom, chair of the Grantown and district branch of the Scottish National Party, added: "We had a similar action day two years ago and this year I was pleased at the very warm display of support from passing motorists.
"It was a very encouraging experience for everyone involved and was a wonderful occasion that allowed people here to see in the type of display of patriotic support that they would normally have to travel to Inverness, Dundee, Aberdeen or Perth to witness.
"As well as being part of a co-ordinated national day of action, this was just one of a string of events where we can be seen in the local area over this year. We will also be present at Highland Games days and community gatherings to allow those interested in Scottish Independence to meet us face to face and ask any questions they may have."
