COMMUNITY EFFORT: While firefighters are called in from all over the country, local people are banding together to support them in various ways.

As community efforts are beefed up in the surrounding wildfires crisis, police have confirmed that several roads in the Carrbridge, Dava, Grantown and Knockando areas remain closed due to two separate fires.

The B9007 is closed from the junction at Duthil to Ferness.

The A939 is closed from Grantown to Ferness and the A940 is closed at Dava.

The B9102 is closed from Grantown to Upper Knockando and Dallas.

The snowgates at Carrbridge are closed.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is in attendance and the public is advised to avoid the area, including footpaths.

Road users are asked not to ignore road closed signs.

Nearby residents are advised to keep windows and doors closed due to the smoke.

Meanwhile in Grantown a co-ordinated community request has gone out to all in the Strathspey capital and surrounding areas.

“The Fire Service Area Commander has passed on their thanks for all the messages, support and supplies everyone is providing whilst they, along with many others, continue to fight the ongoing wildfires,” Grantown Grapevine has just posted.

“They've asked that non-essential vehicle traffic is limited into the affected areas, so as not to get in the way of emergency vehicles.

“So, to offer a coordinated approach, the Grantown YMCA Community Centre will act as a central drop-off point for food and drink donations. They are open until 1:20pm today, so if you’d like to drop off bottled water, snacks, or other refreshments, please pop in, we’re happy to store everything here.

“After 1.20pm, and if the front door is locked please pop in through Fiona’s Wholefoods & Refills and leave donations in the YM cafe area.

“If anyone is available to collect and deliver the donations later, that would be a huge help, just let Heather Fraser know and she will coordinate this. Please get in touch with Heather via Facebook or by text on 07746 000466.

'Thank you' doesn’t feel like enough - but we are extending a huge thank you out to everyone working hard to fight these fires and to the community for supporting them!

“What a great community we live in.”
