Wildfire blaze footage shared by crews tackling Highland Moray fires as tributes for efforts flood in
Tireless fire crews and others battling raging wildfires in Highland and Moray have been hailed for their efforts - as further video of the scale of the blazes emerges.
Fire crews from across the region have been fighting huge wildfires in the Carrbridge and Dava area since Saturday evening.
The blazes, which have been whipped up by strong winds and dry weather, have stretched several miles in places - and even sparked warnings for communities as far away as Forres and Elgin to keep their windows shut amid heavy smoke.
Firefighters in Lossiemouth have also now urged people to keep their windows and doors shut and described conditions near the blazes last night as “extremely dangerous”.
And now, with the blazes still raging, a flood of tributes have emerged online as grateful communities move to praise those fighting to keep the fires in check.
The Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team, posting on their Facebook page on Sunday night, spoke of their “deep gratitude” for those fighting the flames.
They said: “With wildfires currently affecting our area, we want to express our deep gratitude to all emergency services and estate workers who are working tirelessly to extinguish the fires and keep our communities safe.”
They continued: “Our thoughts are with everyone impacted, and we hope for the safety of all those involved in tackling this challenging situation.”
Elsewhere, Nairn Community Fire Station has taken to socials to voice its “huge respect” for all those battling the fires - from firefighters to local gamekeepers.
Posting a tribute alongside fresh video footage of the blaze at the Paul’s Hill Wind Farm near Knockando, they said: “Just a quick update from the front line, we’re still out here, doing everything we can to protect the land, homes, and wildlife from these relentless wildfires.
“As you can see, the damage is devastating. This is exactly why we keep asking - no campfires; no disposable BBQs, no careless smoking.
“Every small act of carelessness can lead to scenes like this, and it’s happening far too often.
“Huge respect to everyone on the ground, especially the crews from Nairn Fire Station and beyond who continue to put themselves in harm’s way to get this under control.
“If you see anything concerning, call 999 immediately.
“Let’s not make a hard job even harder. Stay safe – and please, be responsible.”
These sentiments and other tributes have been shared by the public, who have also praised the firefighters for their ongoing work.
May Botto said: “Thank you so much to all the emergency services for everything that they do to keep us safe and hope that they are staying safe themselves.”
Jenny Prentice said: “The emergency services are doing an amazing job. Thank you for everything you are doing. You are all to be commended for your valiant efforts”.
And Claire Wright added: “And big thanks to the gamekeepers also who are working tirelessly throughout the day/night.”
