Rescue helicopter searching River Spey in Aviemore

A rescue helicopter has been conducting a search over the River Spey in Aviemore this past half-hour.

It is not clear if the chopper is on a rescue operation or a flying exercise but it has been flying low over the river since just before 5pm.

The AgustaWestland 189 arrived in the Aviemore area and has been tracking up and down the river near the village.

The Strathy has contacted the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) and Police Scotland for more information.
