PICTURES: Kingussie pupils create fab 'moo-ral' at sheltering housing complex

Building fences between senior citizens and youngsters in local communities is one thing – painting them, that’s even better!

The point was never made more effectively than in Kingussie the other day, when Glebe Court tenants had the brilliant notion of inviting the high school’s young artists along, to brighten up the fence outside their apartments.

Teacher Neda Ghaffar told the Strathy: “The school was contacted about this incredible opportunity for the pupils to work on a creative community project in Glebe Court.

“S3 pupils were given a brief on what themes the residents would like and developed ideas from there.

“The final design was chosen by the residents, once the pupils had enthusiastically pitched and presented their ideas.

“We are very proud of the pupils’ creativity and community spirit.”

At Glebe Court, development manager Morag Corrigan said: “The tenants are very appreciative of the effort and hard work from the pupils and their teacher Neda from the art department at Kingussie High School.

“At a coffee morning, the pupils presented two options, and the more popular of them is what we now see on the fence.

“It’s been a great opportunity for a community project between different generations.

“The young adults are very talented. We now have a lovely bright colourful fence. Thank you so much, artists.”

Just one glance at the fence confirms that the project was a real ‘coo’!
