Construction workers have been praised for keeping the new Badenoch and Strathspey Community Hospital on track and on budget, one year on from the first national Covid lockdown and with all the challenges the pandemic has brought.
The Strathy is able to provide a first look inside the new £20 million facility nearing completion at Dalfaber in Aviemore.
Work was deemed essential and has carried on throughout the pandemic, following Scottish Government guidelines. The hospital’s completion and handover to the health service is scheduled for July 19.
The new facilities include:
* 24 inpatient beds.
* Three minor injuries/out-of-hours treatment rooms and X-ray facilities.
* A new ambulance base.
* Outpatient department with three consulting/clinic rooms; a group therapy room; physiotherapy gym; podiatry and dental rooms.
* Allied health professional bases for physiotherapy, occupational therapy, podiatry; speech and language and dietetics.
A new Aviemore Medical Practice will also be housed, providing 12 consultation/treatment rooms.
Project manager Kenny Rodgers said: “NHS Highland is grateful to Balfour Beatty and hub North Scotland and their team of contractors for all of their hard work in maintaining construction of the Badenoch and Strathspey Hospital throughout this long and difficult Covid-19 pandemic.
“There have been many challenges that have had to be overcome.
“Creative problem-solving has resolved many of the unforeseen problems that Covid-19 has presented, particularly in respect of safe site working, workforce and supply chain issues.
“We are also grateful to the local community for working with Balfour Beatty to provide key worker accommodation throughout the Covid-19 period.”
