Aviemore and Kingussie make sweet music!
Strathspey and Badenoch have come together in perfect harmony through the Lairig Ghru.
The two areas have literally banded together.
Lairig Ghru are a two piece folk/blues band based in Aviemore near the mountain pass from which they take their name.
The band consists of Stevie Macleod on guitar, vocals and harmonica, who hails from the village, and Gordon Bryan on percussion, mandolin and vocals – who comes from the Badenoch capital, Kingussie, where many grateful people know him as a member of the Scottish Ambulance Service.
They have just released their first EP on major platforms such as Spotify and iTunes and are looking to build up their audience in the area by playing locally. They’re also planning to expand their horizons, with gigs across the country.
“Things are looking good for us and we’ve enjoyed putting together a thoroughly professional production,” Stevie told the Strathy this week as the EP went live. “We have lots of plans and they include a full album, which we’re hoping to start putting together later this year for release in 2020.”
The five-track EP can be accessed via sites such as Spotify, iTunes, Apple and Amazon Music and HMV online and best way to follow the duo is either The Lairig Ghru band Facebook page and Stevie Macleod Music on Instagram.
