Man jailed for causing disturbance at Raigmore Hospital
Shouting abuse at an ambulance crew and medical staff landed an Inverness man a prison sentence.
Sheriff David Sutherland said Daniel McCafferty had committed two similar offences last year at the Accident and Emergency unit at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness and jail was the only option.
McCafferty (26) admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner at the hospital on June 6 at the city's sheriff court..
He admitted behaving in a threatening manner towards a member of staff at the O2 shop in the Eastgate shopping centre in another incident on November 10, last year .
Depute fiscal Robert Weir told the court on Thursday that this arose when he went into the shop with his phone and some difficulty arose over identification.
Solicitor Willie Young acknowledged McCafferty, whose address on court papers was HMP Prison, Inverness, had an unenviable record.
The incident at Raigmore Hospital, he said, occurred after he had been referred there by staff at New Craigs Hospital who had some concerns about his physical well-being.
He said McCafferty had no recollection of what happened at Raigmore Hospital.
Sheriff Sutherland jailed McCafferty for eight months.
In doing so, he told the accused that he noted with concern he was sentenced to a period of imprisonment last year for two breaches of the Emergency Workers Scotland Act at Raigmore Hospital.
