Inverness inmate denies pouring hot liquid over fellow prisoner's face
A prisoner has gone on trial before a jury at Inverness Sheriff Court facing an allegation that he poured hot liquid over the face of a fellow inmate at HMP Inverness in 2014.
Charles Sim, (33), who is now in Grampian Prison at Peterhead has lodged a special defence of self defence.
He has denied that on August 14, 2014 he assaulted Ian Lindsay and threw hot liquid on his face and body and punched him on the head to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement.
Jurors heard that Sim had lodged a special defence that Lindsay had entered his cell uninvited and Sim believed he was going to be assaulted and he pushed and punched Lindsay who was holding a cup of hot liquid.
Nurse practitioner Elizabeth McIntosh, (59), told jurors she recalled Lindsay being brought to the health centre at the prison and she was told he had hot liquid thrown at him.
Mrs McIntosh said Lindsay had red marks at the side of his face and neck and she put cream on his injuries and he was taken to Raigmore Hospital.
Asked by depute fiscal Roderick Urquhart if she could tell what the liquid was she said she couldn’t.
The trial before Sheriff Margaret Nielson continues.
