Cattle do nicely: Strathspey talent gets Highland coo ready for charity sale
Meet Maisie Moonro, who’s off to market next week to raise money for children’s hospices.
Her proud handler is Aviemore born and bred graphic artist Roma McCook.
Strathy readers may well remember Roma’s earlier appearance in these columns back in November, when another of her beautiful beasts also went up for auction for another noble cause.
“Maisy is being auctioned next Thursday (26) to raise money for CHAS - children’s hospices around Scotland” Roma said this week
Now based in London, the 31-year-old former Aviemore Primary and Kingussie High School pupil has amassed a formidable portflio of work and was latterly sponsored by Auchterarder Community Action Plan to produce a beast for auction on the Hairy Highland Coo Trail.
The result goes on sale from 7pm next week.
Roma explained: “Maisy Moonro, the adventurous highland cow, gracefully treks the breathtaking Munros of Perthshire. Known for her independence, Maisy plans each climb, always prepared with Mum’s homemade Scottish tablet for the journey.”
‘Mum’ she explained, is no stranger to the strath. Cathy McCook’s wonderful tablet has nourished many a sweet-toothed fan.
“I couldn’t resist incorporating her lovely confectionery in the piece!”
With a majestic coat flowing in the wind, Maisie embraces the stunning scenery that unfolds before her, says Roma: “ The rolling hills and lush landscapes serve as her playground, where she navigates rocky paths with ease.
“Her hooves confidently tread the ancient trails, connecting with the beauty of Perthshire. As the sun sets over the peaks, Maisy Moonro stands triumphant, embodying the spirit of exploration in the heart of the Scottish highlands.”
For over 30 years CHAS has been offering a full family support service for babies, children and young people with life-shortening conditions, committed to making sure that no matter how short their time together might be, it is a time filled with happiness and fun
Different artists have helped to create a herd of coos from a mixture of class II fire retardant laminating resin and chopped roving fibreglass over an initial brushed – on layer of gel coat.
Yes each of the sculptures has been created by a professional artist
