Foodbank will be sharing Christmas spirit in Badenoch and Strathspey
The Badenoch and Strathspey Foodbank will once again be giving out its annual Christmas Food Gift bags.
They contain a selection of festive food treats and luxuries to support people who might otherwise miss out.
The Christmas Goodie Bags are gifted to those who, while not necessarily qualifying for a food bank voucher, are identified as people who would benefit from a bit of Christmas cheer, especially this year.
Bags are packed to meet the requirements of those who are to the receive them – single, couples, adults with children and pets (cats and dogs).
A formal referral form is not needed and the food bank encourages anyone who knows of a neighbour, friend or community member who would benefit to nominate them for the help. Referral agencies and community leaders are also asked to nominate folk.
Gavin Stewart, chairman of the strath’s steering group said: “We will be aiming to pack and distribute the bags by early December and are now putting out an appeal for a whole host of items.
“All donations need to be received by December 7 to allow for Covid quarantining.”
Steering group member Jaci Douglas commented: “This has been – and continues to be – an especially difficult year. It’s also hoped the bags will contain a small gift as well for any children.
“All social distancing and restrictions will be adhered to and, unlike previous years, there will only be a limited number of donation points.
“All food will be quarantined before being packed and distributed.”
Beth Hay, who also runs the Aviemore Food Share table, said: “Donations can be left at the Co-op or Tesco store in Aviemore as well as at the Grantown Does Christmas event on December 5 and 6 in The Square or at Aviemore Foodshare at St Andrew’s Church Aviemore on Friday from 11am to 1.30pm.
“The Rotary Club of Spey Valley and the Badenoch and Strathspey Community Transport Company are assisting in collecting donations and delivering goodie bags – donations can also be handed directly to them too.”
Items required are: Mince pies, small cakes, Christmas pud (small), tins of custard, sauce and cream, tins of ham or salmon, small tins of veg and fruit, chocolate in small boxes, selection boxes, Pringles, small bottles of juice and soft drinks, shortbread and biscuits, nice toiletries, soap, gloves, small gifts for men and women, Christmas cards and wrapping paper.
