Surface improvements for the A9 at Drumochter
A 1.1 kilometres section of the A9 north of the Dalnaspidal junction at the Drumochter Pass is set to benefit from resurfacing improvements worth £335,000.
The works are being carried out on behalf of Transport Scotland and are scheduled to begin this Monday (September 21) and last for three weeks.
At 460 metres above sea level at the summit, the Drumochter Pass is the highest section of trunk road in the UK.
The latest resurfacing project will bring the total Transport Scotland investment on this part of the A9 to £1.3 million since March this year.
The improvements will be carried out between 7am and 7pm each day from Monday to Friday with no works programmed for the weekends.
During the works, temporary traffic lights and a 10mph convoy system will be in place for the safety of the workforce and members of the public.
There will also be a lane closure implemented on the dual carriageway section prior to the works area in order to safely manage the flow of traffic through the site.
A 30mph speed limit will be in place outwith the working hours to ensure vehicles can pass safely over the temporary surface.
Mr Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Unit Representative said: “These essential resurfacing works will improve the condition of this section of the A9 and will address all cracks and defects in the surface.
“We would encourage motorists to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date travel information and to allow extra time for travel.”
