Adding some lights to Aviemore winter nights
Organisers of Aviemore's winter lights have said they are delighted by the response to an online auction to help illuminate the village during the dark months.
It is the latest fundraising event to but more display lights for the village following a recent and very successful race night.
Bids are still being taken for a range of items including LNER first class rail tickets and a Highland Hideouts break for the auction which runs until December 10.
There are plans to extend Aviemore’s winter lights beyond the village centre.
Winter lights committee spokesman Joe Kirby said: “The winter light fundraising will continue over the next few years improving both the lights and coverage around the village.”
He said part of the plan was to extend the lights – appropriately enough – along Santa Claus Way to the Aviemore Retail Park.
So far 10 red and blue 2.3 metre light motifs have been bought and the race night will ensure at least another 10 more lights for winter 2020.
They will supplement the existing 38 white lights and Mr Kirby said an expert eye had ensured they can be mixed and matched.
A Highland Hideouts spokeswoman said: "We are delighted to be supporting the fantastic Aviemore Winter Lights project, which will benefit locals and visitors alike.
"We hope that our donation of a short break at one of our luxury lodges will raise a significant amount of money for this fantastic cause."
