Anger over bottles of urine discarded by lorry drivers parking overnight in the middle of Aviemore has led to an outcry on social media and prompted action from police and the local authority.

The unpleasant deliveries are being left behind despite the village’s public toilets being within view and short reach from the unofficial lorry park at Myrtlefield.

A Highland Council spokeswoman said: “We have received complaints and have notified the police of the parking and obstruction issue so they can follow this up – any illegally parked vehicle is a matter for them.

“We are aware of the concerns within the community so we are proposing to notify the guilty parties of the parking concerns.”

At the same time, wider anger is growing over the ‘toilets’ which have been created out of the strath’s laybys both on the A9 Inverness-Perth road, the B9152 Aviemore-Kingussie road and the network of routes linking local towns and villages.

Local Westminister SNP candidate Drew Hendry, said: “I have written to Transport Scotland asking them to meet with me and Highland Council to discuss the maintenance of the roadside and lay-bys as the current state is simply not acceptable, not only for locals but for the vital tourist season.”
