A9 motorist drove at twice the speed limit
A holidaymaker travelling north to Inverness was caught driving at over 100mph on a stretch of the A9 where there was a temporary 50mph order in place.
John Pollock, (60), of Camus Avenue, Edinburgh admitted driving his BMW motor car carelessly at 101mph on the A9 at Lynebeg near Tomatin on July 27, last year.
Depute fiscal Stewart Maciver told the court it was a Sunday afternoon about 1.45pm when police saw Pollock’s car approaching on an overtaking lane at speed.
He was stopped by the traffic police and the fiscal said he told them he was overtaking a motor bike then an Audi motor car began pulling out of him so he accelerated to avoid a collision.
Solicitor Martin Black said Pollock had been driving since 1976 and held a clean driving licence and had no previous convictions.
He said he worked as a marine insurance manager and needed his licence for work. He was on holiday at the time of the offence.
Sheriff David Sutherland imposed £500 fine and endorsed Pollock’s licence with six penalty points.
