Young sailor of the year award crowning glory for strath teen
AN Aviemore windsurfer really does have the wind in her sails.
Islay Watson (18) has just been named the RYA Scotland Youth Sailor of the Year.
She was unable to attend but did send a message that was broadcast at the bash on Saturday in Inverkip.
She said: "I am sorry I cannot be there as I am training in Portugal for the winter. I'm honoured to be receiving this award and a huge thanks to everyone that made 2018 really great."
Loch Insh Outdoor Centre director Jonny Freshwater, who was instrumental in Watson's rise to the top of the sport, picked up the award on her behalf.

Freshwater, her former instructor, said: "Our vision continues to be to nurture personal and sporting development in athletes and young people; for them to be ambitious and become the best they can be.
"We are obviously super proud of Islay's achievements this past year. She's a fantastic ambassador for Loch Insh.
"It is nice RYA Scotland recognised her achievements and the dedication and support of her family.
"Being world champion is an accolade most athletes will never better. I hope she can enjoy the moment and continues to enjoy windsurfing for years to come wherever she decides to take it."
RYA Scotland CEO James Allan said: "This year Islay's hunger and hard work is reflected in her outstanding results both nationally and internationally.
"She has taken part in numerous regattas, walking away with Youth National Champion 2018 and the World National Champion 2018 in Corpus Chisti in Texas. In addition to this Islay qualified for Team GBR and was selected to compete at the 2018 Youth Olympics Games where she finished 11th.
"She is an athlete who is gracious in her glory and does not turn her back to a challenge especially when out on the water."
Watson was also included in the Performance of the Year Award for winning the Youth World Championships in the RS:X windsurfing Class, but it was Jock Wishart and the Celtic Commodores Cup team which claim the award on the night.
