A 13-year-old Grantown golfer has claimed the 2024 Forres Junior Club Championship.

Grantown Grammar School pupil Findlay Nicol was in superb form on Sunday in taking the honours and told the Strathy he owed his success to coach David Torrance’s golf academy.

That and his membership of both Grantown and Forres Golf Clubs.

The Forres club posted its congratulations to Findlay at the weekend.

“Furthermore, well done to all who took part across the last week and good luck for the rest of the golf season!”

Findlay told the Strathy: “I was happy to win the 2024 Junior Club Championships at Forres on Sunday.

“When I was presented with The Hugh B Stuart trophy, I met two people who had won it in the 80s and the 90s when they were young.

“It’s good to have my name on a trophy that has been going since 1972.

“I am looking forward to playing in more competitions around Scotland over the summer.

“I want to say thank you to David Torrance for all his coaching and support.”
