AVIEMORE personal trainer Melissa Wall has added to her medal haul by taking silver at the British Powerlifting Equipped Championships.

Wall squatted a new personal best of 110kg – an increase of 5kg on her previous record in the event held at Stanhope Hall, Hornecastle in Lincolnshire

This was followed by 75kg in the benchpress equalling her PB but unfortunately for Wall she could not match the same standard in the deadlift.

She started with 130kg for her opening lift and 10kg below her current PB but was unable to take the next step up.

However, she still recorded a combined PB of 315kg in her 84kgs Masters 2 division which was good enough for silver.

Wall said: "Training has been pretty full on since the Europeans Equipped Champs in July, last year, and had been going very well.

"But a few weeks some niggling injuries started to appear which meant I had to adapt my training in the lead into the British to work around then so sadly I wasn't able to peak my final training cycle as planned."

She continued: "I was so disappointed with my deadlift performance as it's my favourite lift.

"Even though I knew I hadn't been able to put the work into it in my training due to injury I had hoped that I'd be able to grind out much more on the day but sadly it wasn't to be.

"As ever it's all down to performing on the platform on the day."

Wall is currently awaiting confirmation of selection for the GB team for The European Powerlifting Equipped Championships in Romania in July and intends to resume full training shortly.

She added: "Huge thanks to my husband Steve who coached me on the day having just returned from Afghanistan for a short R&R. I'd also like to thank local physiotherapist Julie Porteous who is an outstanding support and somehow manages to keep me moving into every competition."
