Holders Kingussie reached the Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup semi-finals with a solid 5-0 win over Beauly at Braeview Park.

Kingussie were without Rory MacKeachan who picked up a one-match suspension for a disciplinary points accumulation whilst Lee Bain was also missing.

Dylan Borthwick got Kingussie off to a great start as he dribbled the ball in from the right, by a defender, before sweeping it into the net.

It took Kingussie until five minutes before the break to add another as Iain Fraser, who started at wing forward, rolled the ball into the net from the right.

Roddy Young scored the first of his treble a minute before the interval, running into the middle of the D to turn home Iain Fraser’s ball from the right.

Young went on to complete his hat-trick with efforts on 68 and 86 minutes.

First, he finished low into the net on his backhand from the left with Iain Fraser again involved and he then appeared at the back post to turn home a Cammie Bremner ball from the right.

Kingussie manager Iain Borthwick said: “We were well on top and Dylan Borthwick’s goal right at start settled nerves and he took it well. Roddy Young played really well and deserved his three goals.

“It was so hard for the players to play as the heat was brutal, and I was glad that at 3-0 up, we didn’t have to push too much in the second half and were able to save energy.”

The Red and Blues return to Mowi Premiership action on Saturday when they play Kinlochshiel at Rèaraig.

It is part of a double-headers as the game will be preceded by a meeting between the clubs’ second teams at noon.

The Kingussie second team went down 4-0 to the Inverness first team in their Mowi North Division 1 league match at The Dell at the weekend.

Finlay Calder grabbed a hat-trick and Skye Mackintosh the other.
