Kingussie’s first team can take inspiration from their colts ahead of their Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup final tomorrow against Lovat at An Aird.

The Red and Blues will be hoping to lift the Scottish for a 26th time at Fort William.

And it could lead to a remarkable double league and cup double.

Last week, the Dell’s second team completed a rare feat - lifting the HIS Sutherland Cup as a North 2 division team.

It meant that they completed the league and cup double.

And with the Kings first team sitting pretty at the top of the Mowi Premier Division and just needing one more victory to defend their title, adding the Camanachd Cup would likely seal a dream season for the club.

Kingussie seconds co-manager John Gibson hailed his ‘gutsy’ side after completing the HIS Sutherland Cup and North 2 league double.

The Red and Blues second team showed their fighting qualities as they twice came from behind to beat their Skye Camanachd counterparts 3-2 - inlcuding a last gasp winner - in the cup final at Blairbeg last Saturday.

Kingussie’s last success in this competition was in 2012.

Roddy Young started for the Kings with first team manager Iain Borthwick keen he got as much game time as possible on his return from injury with tomorrow’s Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup final very much in mind.

And it certainly paid dividends with Young scoring two of the goals including the last minute winner.

Michael Slimon got the other vital goal with just five minutes remaining to make it 2-2.

Gibson was able to look back on a satisfying afternoon which looked unlikely with the clock ticking down.

He said: “It was a great day for the club, and when news of the first team win filtered through, it certainly set us up nicely for our game.”

He added: “It was a good call from Russell Jones that changed the game, putting James Hutchison into full centre for the last 25 minutes and with the chances we created, we could have had a few more goals during the final 10 minutes.

“It wasn’t the best game of shinty you’ll ever see but it was a really gutsy performance against a good team.

On Young’s contribution, Gibson remarked: “Roddy certainly didn’t expect to play the full 90 minutes but he did really well and that can only stand him in good stead for the games ahead.

“It’s great to get the season wrapped up with a cup final win in our last game.

“The boys can now get a decent break before we start all over again in January.”
