Holders Kingussie won back through to the WM Donald MacTavish Cup Final after scoring twice just after the hour to beat Lochaber 2-0 at The Dell.

Roddy Young’s low strike put the Kings ahead on Saturday and Savio Genni’s delicate lift over stand-in keeper Brennan MacDonald, from the left of the D just minutes later completed the 2-0 win and set up a final meeting with Lovat.

Reflecting on the game, Kingussie manager Iain Borthwick said: “We started with the same team as last week except for Robert Mabon coming in for the injured Rory MacKeachan in defence.

“However, after just 12 minutes, we lost Liam Borthwick and Fraser Munro with hamstring injuries meaning we had to put Lee Bain and Eoin Baikie on and change our plans, and we just couldn’t get going.

“We managed to get a grip off the game in the second half and started to put them under pressure.

“I thought we deserved our two quick goals but we still had to rely on a couple of good Rory McGregor saves before the end.

“Macleod Dawson came on at wing back after Cammie Bremner went off with a sore knee but at least Ruaridh Anderson was an unused substitute so managed another week’s rest.”

League leaders Kingussie return to Mowi Premiership action on Saturday with a difficult fixture against third-placed Oban Camanachd at Mossfield.
