PICTURES: Camanachd Cup final man of the match now focused on securing title
Kingussie’s Ruaridh Anderson is not resting on his laurels after collecting the prestigious Albert Smith memorial medal for being the Camanachd Cup’ Final’s man of the match.
He is already looking ahead to this weekend after the Red and Blues 3-2 win over Lovat on a blazing hot Saturday at An Aird in Fort William.
The influential playmaker said: “We’re absolutely ecstatic. It was a tough battle in the heat with two really good teams going at it the whole game.
“It’s the trophy you dream of winning when you are a kid.
“The Albert Smith medal is a bit of history so it’s nice to get my name on it.
“Some of us have three Camanachd Cup winner’s medals but you never get bored of winning them and long may it continue.
“But it’s back to league duty (away to Skye) on Saturday now when we’ll hopefully get the two points we need to wrap up the league title.”
The Albert Smith medal was presented to Ruaridh by relative Victor Smith and completes a family double.
Ruaridh’s father Davie Anderson, one of the shinty greats, received the same accolade in 1987 when the Kings defeated Newtonmore 4-3 in the final at the same venue.
It is thought that only Kyles Athletic father and son Kenny and Roddy Macdonald have previously achieved the same recognition.
