Newtonmore will be looking to bounce back after crashing out of MacTavish Cup with a shock 2-1 defeat at the Eilan to Glenurquhart.

They will be hoping to put that disappointment behind them this weekend when they take on old rivals Kingussie.

Last Saturday’s setback means that hopes that Blue and White fans may have harboured of a grand slam this season have been dashed.

But Newtonmore boss PJ MacKintosh said that it was unlikely to have been a realistic proposition.

He told the "Strathy": "Saturday’s defeat is an indication where all these teams are now at. It has been clear since the start of the season that no one team is going to dominate; results are very much down to how each team performs on the day."

MacKintosh said that a clean sweep of this season’s trophies had never even entered his head.

"Grand slams happened in the past and were achieved by exceptional sides," he said. "Now there are too many teams too close to one another in terms of ability and it could be a long time before another grand slam is claimed."

Glenurquhart were always going to be tough opposition, but, at the Eilan, the home supporters’ hopes had been pinned firmly on a victory despite injuries to key players.

International defenders Rory Kennedy and Andy Mackintosh, and the influential Paul MacArthur were all missing through injury, whilst Chris Sellar started but lasted just 25 minutes.

MacKintosh said that Sellar is back to square one with his hamstring injury and could miss the next six to eight weeks.
