Newtonmore’s unexpected free Saturday has given Rory Kennedy and Conor Jones more recovery time ahead of the big Badenoch derby this weekend.

The Blue and Whites’ Mowi Premiership match with Kinlochshiel was postponed when it became clear on Friday afternoon that ‘Shiel’s Rèaraig pitch was unplayable.

New boss Peter Ross has overseen a 2-0 win on the opening day of the season away to Caberfeidh but then lost 4-2 at home to surprise package Fort William who are joint early leaders with Kingussie.

Throw-up for the local derby on Saturday at the Eilan in 3pm.

Meanwhile two late goals consigned the Newtonmore colts to a 5-3 defeat against the Kinlochshiel colts in an entertaining Mowi North Division 1 game at the Eilan on Saturday.

James Coyle’s goal and a Mathew Sloss brace counted for ‘More but Duncan Macmillan’s hat-trick and efforts from Rory Barclay and Jay MacRae gave ‘Shiel victory.

Other North Division 1 results: Beauly 1 - 2 Fort William; Inverness 1 - 3 Glengarry; Glenurquhart 2 - 2 Skye.
