New assistant at Seafield Park

JAGS BOSS Brian Ritchie has promoted coach Brian Grant to the role of assistant manager at the club following Rab Mulheron’s departure.

Ritchie said: “Brian is a local man who has come on board with us and I am delighted to bring him in.

“He has the same coaching badges as me and has plenty of experience. He has been on the SFA courses at Largs and is someone I have known for a long time.

“He is a former Clach player, so has experience of Highland League football as well as having played in the local welfare league.

“He has been involved on the coaching side of things with our youth teams and is very well thought of within in the club.

“I am delighted he has agreed to take the step up and give us a hand with the first team because he is a guy I have an awful lot of time for away from the football too.”

He added: “Brian sings from the same hymn sheet as me and we can bounce ideas off one another.

“Between him, Craig Ireland and Scotty Robson, we all think along the same lines and Brian is not shy about putting his opinion across to the boys.

“It is a good appointment for the club because he is someone all of the local youngsters know and, hopefully, he can help us to attract some more players from the area to the club too.”

The Jags saw Saturday’s home game against Huntly postponed due to frost.

Ritchie said: “We were a bit hopeful at 5pm on Friday but then the frost came in and the ground was as hard as concrete.”

Thistle were due to host Nairn St Ninian last night (Tuesday) at Seafield Park in a friendly match, weather permitting.

On Saturday, Strathspey are due to travel to Highland League leaders Forres Mechanics. Kick-off at Mosset Park is at 3pm.
