Nethy Bridge racer Calum Langmuir qualifies for today’s Giant Slalom final at World Championship
Fingers will be crossed that local Alpine ski racer Calum Langmuir can make his mark for GB in the GS today at the 2025 FIS Alpine Ski World Championships in Saalbach.
The 22-year-old from Nethy Bridge will go in today’s Giant Slalom after coming through the qualifers yesterday.
He finished in fifth place with only the top 25 qualifying out of 130 racers progressing to today’s final.
Langmuir has already competed in the exciting Team Parallel discipline in the prestigious competition currently taking place in the Austrian resort.
Unfortunately, he crashed out along with his GB teammate in the first round against one of the strongest Alpine ski nations - the French.
That cost the team who secured a 14th place finish overall but the team did well to even qualify with only the top 16 countries making it to the world champs.
Langmuir will also be in GB colours again in the Slalom on Sunday.
The former Abernethy and Grantown Grammar School pupil told the Strathy in between training: “I had a big crash in the Team Parallel but fortunately I am recovering okay.
“It is not often you get to compete with the very best in the world.
“I'm really grateful for the privilege, and keen to give it my all and learn from them.”
Langmuir is only one of two Scots in the GB senior squad for the world champs - the other being fellow Alpine skier Owen Vinter from Bearsden.
He started his ski career training regularly on Cairngorm Mountain and at the Lecht.
At age 14, he had the opportunity to pursue his passion for ski racing at a ski academy in Vermont.
Since that time he has steadily progressed in his ski racing career, and is now competing for the British Alpine Europa Cup Team.
Two years ago he became the youngest Brit to compete in the Alpine World Championships.
Langmuir said: “Growing up in the Cairngorms was a dream childhood for me, forever playing outside…
“Being encouraged to experiment and test my limits in an outdoor environment has got me here today.”
“My goals have always been centred around achieving the peak of my athletic potential as an Alpine ski racer, and becoming a strong competitor in World Cup races.
“It is an amazing privilege to ski along side Dave Riding and the GB World Cup Team on an international stage. It’s the opportunity of a lifetime.”

Team GB Alpine Skiing is not well supported so Calum Langmuir and his family have to fund his own costs of travel, accommodation, equipment and training.
He said: “I’d like to say a huge thank you to my supporters, my fantastic sponsors Cairngorm Capital, and Moggans ski socks, and to my family.”
