Local derby set up nicely in HIS Sutherland Cup after wins for Kings and ‘More

The Badenoch giants’ seconds are to meet at the Eilan in the last eight of the HIS Sutherland Cup after both teams progressed at the weekend.

Holders Kingussie are through to the quarter-finals after twice coming from behind to beat Caberfeidh 4-2 in their second-round tie at The Dell.

Cabers went in front through John Ritchie, but Robert Shiells made it 1-1 a minute before the interval.

Caberfeidh led again through Ali Taylor but a second goal from Robert Shiells came just a minute later.

Kingussie won the tie during the final 20 minutes through Rory Munro and a hat-trick goal from Robert Shiells.

Newtonmore’s second team secured their place in the quarter-finals after comfortably beating Aberdeen University 6-0 at the Eilan.

Xander Ross grabbed a hat-trick with James Coyle, Glen Mackintosh and Jacob Bain getting the others.

Just like their senior side, Newtonmore trail west on Saturday for a noon Mowi North Division 1 meeting with their Kinlochshiel counterparts at Rèaraig.

This weekend, the Kingussie seconds return to Mowi North Division 1 action as they host the Glenurquhart second team.
