Kingussie return to the top of the Mowi Premiership
Kingussie’s stay away from the top of the Mowi Premiership lasted just a week as a 4-2 victory over Kyles Athletic at Tighnabruaich on Saturday saw them reclaim top spot at Caberfeidh’s expense.
Thomas Borthwick remained sidelined with a shoulder injury for the travelling Kings whilst Lee Bain was unavailable, and Liam Borthwick was injured.
Cameron Bremner, Iain Fraser and George Taylor Ramsay were strung across the midfield whilst Eoin Baikie, Macleod Dawson and Jack Nelson were listed as substitutes.
Kyles fielded a similar line-up to the one which drew with Caberfeidh the previous week.
They were without John Kennedy and David Zavaroni whilst Will Cowie, Ross Donald and Roan MacVicar made up their bench.
Cheered on by a patriotic home support, Kyles started well but Kingussie soon settled into the game, forcing some good saves from Jack Whyte in the home goal.
There were just seconds of the first 45 minutes remaining when Kingussie edged in front.
Referee Ross Brown awarded the visitors a free-hit and Ruaridh Anderson played a good ball which dropped for Dylan Borthwick who was just outside the right of the box.
Borthwick flicked the ball into the D where James Falconer ran in to slip the ball by the keeper to make it 1-0 at the turnaround.
Kingussie started to storm down the slope from the restart, putting Kyles under pressure and the second half was only five minutes old when Ruaridh Anderson doubled their lead with a well-taken strike.
Savio Genini put the ball out wide to the left wing and Anderson’s waist high strike beat the keeper to his left.
It was Ruaridh Anderson again on 58 minutes, this time sending a backhand drive from distance through a crowded goal area with the ball going through the keeper’s legs and into the net and the Kings now led 3-0.
There was only going to be one winner and Savio Genini made it 4-0 on 75 minutes. Genini ran down to the sea-end wing before stopping the ball, turning and lashing a rocket-strike into the top corner of the goal.
Kyles rallied late on with Scott Macdonald pulling a goal back against the run of play on 78 minutes.
Kyles now looked threatening, and James Pringle made it 4-2 a couple of minutes later but it was not enough and Kingussie saw out the remainder of the game to claim both points.
