Kingussie crush Cabers to go top of Mowi Premier League
Kingussie turned in what manager Iain Borthwick described as their ‘best performance of the season so far’ when they crushed Caberfeidh 7-1 in their Mowi Premiership match at The Dell on Saturday.
The Red and Blues were on it from the start with Dylan Borthwick scoring in the opening minute.
Borthwick then went on to grab a first-half hat-trick with and effort on 13 minutes and another 3 minutes into first-half stoppage time.
Eoin Baikie (52nd), Ruaridh Anderson (54th) and Roddy Young (60th) added their names to the scoresheet before Ben MacDonald (72nd) pulled one back for Cabers who finished second in the league last season.
However, 15-year-old Toby Thain rounded things off when he came off the bench to score his first goal for the first team just four minutes from time.
Kingussie manager Iain Borthwick spoke soon after the game: “The boys were really good today.
“That was our best performance this season and we could maybe even had more goals.
“We were four boys short so well done to the everyone who played.
“I thought Robert Mabon was superb at full back with Rory MacKeachan, George Taylor Ramsay and Sam Thain all really good in defence too.
“They worked so hard and it’s not often you see a game when Caberfeidh’s Craig Morrison doesn’t get a shot at goals which says it all really.
“Roddy Young played at centre forward against Blair Morrison and Blair didn’t get much peace from Rod so their ball wasn’t going route-one as much as it normally does.
“Roddy’s running with ball caused them so many problems.
“It was also so good to see Dylan back to his scoring ways and he took his goals well.
“Eoin Baikie scored after coming on and he never lets me down whilst Toby Thain also came on and got his first senior goal and he highly impressed me.”
The victory means Kingussie return to the top of the Mowi Premiership as previous leaders Fort William, who’s meeting with Kinlochshiel was postponed, drop to third, a point behind.
