Kings win would be perfect tonic
Kingussie have said that a win over old foes Newtonmore on Saturday will be a perfect tonic to make up for their MacTavish Cup disappointment.
The Red and Blues are desperate to put one over their rivals and the Orion Group Premiership league leaders in the big derby clash at the Dell.
‘More have started off as they finished last season, not only setting the pace in the league but qualifying for the Co-operative McTavish Cup after a dramatic penalty shoot out win in the semi-final away to Glenurquhart last weekend.
In contrast, Kingussie suffered a shock defeat by Lochaber in the cup’s other semi-final.
Jimmy Gow, one of Kingussie’s coaches, said: "We are looking forward to the game. We had a bit of a disaster against Glenurquhart last Saturday but a clash with our local rivals is a good way to pick ourselves up.
"Anything can happen on the day, as form goes out of the window in a derby game. We can compete with anybody, we just need to find more consistency."
He added: "All the players are looking good, there are no inury worries and we are looking forward to the occasion."
Newtonmore manager Norman ‘Brick’ MacArthur agreed that the current form of the two clubs was no indicator of what the result of the match would be.
He said: "It doesn’t matter which team is on top or who has the higher league position, it’s all about what happens on the day.
"The boys are always up for these games and they love playing Kingussie. There area a few minor injury niggles but I am pretty confident that everyone will be okay for the game."
