Kings falter against Glenurquhart

Kingussie had to look lively to notch up a point against a spirited Glenurquhart at Drumnadrochit on Saturday in a 3-3 clash.

Ronald Ross had given the Kings the early lead, on 10 minutes, but a Fraser Heath double on 13 and 26 minutes gave the Glen the half-time edge.

Martin Dallas levelled for Kingussie five minutes after the restart before Glenurquhart lost Lewis MacLennan to a red card.

Ross restored Kingussie’s lead in the 83rd minute.

However, Glenurquhart battled on and Billy Urquhart restored the equilibrium with a minute left on the clock.

In the remaining Premier League game, Inveraray disposed of Bute through a Garry Macpherson penalty in 74 minutes.

In the first round of the Camanachd Cup, the biggest winners were Lochaber, who dispatched Lochcarron by an 8-0 margin.

There was a hat-trick from Scott Patterson and doubles from both Zands Ferguson and Stuart Callison. Ryan Toal notched up the remaining strike.

There were wins, too, for Skye, 5-2 over Caberfeidh, and Strathglass, who beat Aberdour by the same margin.

Also into the hat are Kilmory, 3-2 victors over Taynuilt, while both Oban sides fell at the first hurdle, Camanachd going down 4-2 away to Glasgow Mid Argyll and

Celtic lost 3-1 at home at the hands of Beauly.

In North Division 2 there was a shock in store for previously high-flying Newtonmore when they lost 2-1 at the hands of Fort William at the Black Park.

Neil Clark put the Fort second string ahead in 18 minutes, but Drew MacDonald levelled in the 64th minute to give the visitors a chance of a late steal.

But Clark was on hand again in the 77th minute to seal the win for An Gearasdan.

Also in North 2, Kingussie fought out the same 3-3 draw as had befallen the first team, this time at home to Glenurquhart. Chris Hollysong netted first to give Kingussie the lead, then Rory Borthwick and Hollysong with his double added to the Kingussie shoreline whilst a Daniel MacIntosh double and one from Jack Hosie gave Glenurquhart the draw.

One other result worthy of note was a close tie between Lochbroom and Strathspey, which the West Coast side won by a single goal. Strathspey continue to make progress and are showing that they can hold their own well enough in the third division. Better results will surely not be far off for the new side.
