Jags fall to lively United

Strathspey Thistle 1, Formartine United 3

THE visitors took the lead on the stroke of half-time with the first real chance of the match to hand United the initiative.

Daniel Park fed youngster William Mathers and he composed himself before firing a volley beyond Jags' goalkeeper Andis Klarkins from the edge of the break.

Klarkins was then replaced by Robertson at the break and the hosts came out reinvigorated by their half-time interval as they equalised five minutes after the turnaround.

Mateusz Bobrowski showed fine agility to get himself on the end of a cross into the danger area to crash an acrobatic effort beyond Kieran McCaffrey in the Formartine goal.

However, Formartine re-established their lead in the 64th minute.

Callum Dunbar was afforded the space to take Robertson by surprise as he took on an early shot that squeezed beyond the on-loan keeper at the far post.

Formartine made sure of all three points as they added a third goal with 10 minutes to play.

Colin Robertson met a corner kick into the danger area with a header which flew into the net.

Then, two minutes later, the same player again connected with a corner but he could only turn the ball over the crossbar with a close range effort.

Veteran defender Bobby Mann was only the width of the crossbar away from adding to the tally with a thunderous free kick that smacked off the woodwork and bounced away to safety.

The Jags were due to round off their campaign at home against in-form Clachnacuddin last night (Wednesday).
